Two months after the car incident, my husband built a bike bed so our dog could ride again.
Ten years ago, my husband, Jasper, was out on a bike ride when he spotted Rook alone on the side of the road. Someone had left him there.
Jasper stopped, brought him home, and from that day on, the two of them were rarely apart.
Their morning bike rides quickly became a daily tradition. Every day, they followed the same route at the same time, and Rook looked forward to every trip.
Then, two months ago, a car incident left Rook unable to walk. The veterinarian told us that long walks were no longer possible.
Jasper couldn’t bear the thought of ending their morning rides.
Instead, he built a secure bed on the front of his bike, making sure Rook would be safe, comfortable, and close beside him.
Now they’re riding together again.
They travel the same streets, just at a slower pace. Every morning, Rook still waits for his ride, and every morning, Jasper makes sure it happens.
